PRP Football Coach Indicted In Player's Death

The head coach of Louisville's Pleasure Ridge Park High School football team has been indicted on a reckless homicide charge in connection with the death of a player who collapsed at practice last summer.Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Stengel says a grand jury returned the indictment against coach David Stinson Thursday.P-R-P sophomore Max Gilpin collapsed at practice August 20 and died three days later at a hospital.Stinsons' attorney, Alex Dathorne, says the indictment is surprising."Although I have not been privy to the police investigative file or the materials that were presented to the grand jury, from my own independent investigation, I am a bit surprised and disappointed that criminal charges were inititiated against Coach Stinson," Dathorne said.Police and the school system both launched investigations into claims from bystanders that players at the August practice were denied water.Dathorne says his client will plead not guilty at his arraignment Monday and is prepared to go to trial. The reckless homicide charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
