Rally Held In Support Of Infrastructure Legislation

Billboards calling the Kennedy Bridge "structurally deficient" will soon be up in Louisville.The signs are the work of the Laborers' International Union of North America, which held a rally downtown Thursday to call for more federal infrastructure spending. Spokesperson David Miller says the money is necessary to repair crumbling roads and bridges."It's a question of, 'You pay me now or you pay me more later.' Our current infrastructure needs are estimated at about $2.2 trillion. That actually increases $150 billon every year," he says.His statistics come from the American Society of Civil Engineers.Congressman John Yarmuth attended the rally. The Democrat says he supports more highway spending and said the White House economic team often seems too focused on Wall Street. He also criticized congressional Republicans for blocking legislation. Senator Mitch McConnell says he looks forward to working with the administration to reauthorize the highway bill next year.
