Rand Paul To Make Decision Soon On Senate Run

Thanks to Dan Conti, Kentucky Public Radio/WMKY, MoreheadBowling Green eye surgeon Rand Paul says he'll decide before August 20 if he'll enter the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in 2010, regardless of whether incumbent Republican Jim Bunning remains a candidate for re-election.

"I have publicly said that I do not wish to run against Jim Bunning," Paul (pictured at right) said. "However, the uncertainty about his campaign is forcing me to reconsider. I don't want to allow games to be played where the senator drops out at the last minute and there is no primary and no debate about the direction of the Republican Party."

Bunning (left) says he plans to stay in the race, but has also hinted he would drop out if his fundraising falters. Both Paul and Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson (below right)  have formed exploratory committees for a possible Senate run. Grayson says he won't enter the race unless Bunning drops out.
