Red Kettle Campaign Has High Goal, Needs Volunteer

The Salvation Army is still seeking volunteers in order to help meet its ambitious goal for this year's Red Kettle campaign. As of late last week, the campaign had collected about 200 thousand dollars. The goal for this year is 500 thousand dollars. Major Keath Biggers says to meet the higher goal, the campaign began four days early this year."We started on November the 2nd, which was four days earlier than normal," he says. "We started on Monday, November the 2nd, and that was $20,000 came in those four extra days."And, despite an increase in volunteers, Biggers says more bell-ringers are needed to cover kettles in some areas."We made a concerted effort several months ago to go ahead and really start pushing for volunteers," he says. "And we are up in volunteer hours, but having said that, there are still sties we need volunteers to call in and sign up for."Last year's campaign brought in 382 thousand dollars.
