Report: Subpoenas Issued In Louisville Cardinals Prostitution Allegations

J. Tyler Franklin

The Jefferson Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has begun issuing grand jury subpoenas in connection with allegations that escorts were provided to University of Louisville men’s basketball players and recruits, according to ESPN.

Among those subpoenaed to testify is the publisher of the book “Breaking Cardinal Rules,” in which co-author Katina Powell alleges that former basketball staff member Andre McGee arranged for strippers and sex parties with players and recruits over a four-year period.

ESPN also cites an anonymous source familiar with the proceedings. Grand jury proceedings are typically done in secret in Kentucky.

Patricia Keiffner, the publisher of Indianapolis Business Journal Book Publishing, told ESPN that “we are to appear before the grand jury November 5th.”

A spokesman for Commonwealth’s Attorney Thomas Wine declined to comment on whether such proceedings are taking place.

The claims made in the book are the focus of several investigations, including one by the university.

Earlier this month, ESPN published a story in which five unnamed former Cardinals players and recruits acknowledged that elements of Powell's allegations were true.

Louisville Cardinals Coach Rick Pitino has said he doesn't know if the allegations are true, and has denied that any involvement.
