The Louisville Free Public Library has a new online resource for students working on term papers, history buffs and people suffering from debilitating holiday vacation boredom.

Archives from local, regional and national newspapers — reaching as far back as the early 1800s – are now available on the library’s website.

Louisville publications include The Courier-Journal and Business First. Also available are archives from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Cincinnati Enquirer, the Nashville Tennessean, alternative press publications and other papers.

The wars, as reported in real(-ish) time. The Roosevelts. Old baseball games. This is the year you’ll have something to talk about with your grandfather at holiday family gatherings.

The new feature launched this week, said Paul Burns, a library spokesman.

A library card number is needed to access the archives.

The library recently began offering free e-magazines, as well.
