Rev. Charles Elliott Speaks Out Against Sheppard Square Revitalization

On Monday, The US Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a $22 Million grant for the revitalization of the Sheppard Square public housing in Smoketown.  However, not everyone thinks the plan to tear down the building and establish a mixed-income neighborhood is a good idea.  Some have opposed the idea because of the possibility that the current residents could be scattered and not offered a chance to come back.Reverend Charles Elliott spoke up at the press conference, voicing his concerns about HUD's promises to increase jobs and provide affordable housing for those who would like to return to the neighborhood. Here is the audio of his speech and the response from HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.
