Rick Pitino Gets Two Words in Before Boston Sports Radio Hosts Hang Up

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

So Louisville Cardinals men's basketball coach Rick Pitino has a new book out, "The One-Day Contract," and he's been making the media rounds to promote it.He calls in Thursday to the Boston sports radio show "Toucher & Rich," hosted by Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb. The exchange goes like this:Toucher : "We are joined by Rick Pitino, former coach of the Celtics, current coach of the Louisville Cardinals who won the national championship. Rick Pitino, hello."Pitino: "Morning, guys."Toucher : "You stink. You ruined the Celtics."And then Toucher hangs up.The interview lasts about 12 seconds. You can hear it here.In 1997, Pitino left the Kentucky Wildcats—after two straight appearances in the national title game—to take over the Boston Celtics. Things didn't go well. He left the Celtics halfway through the 2000-2001 season with a 102-146 record. In spring 2001, he became head coach of the Louisville Cardinals, which since then have played in three Final Fours and won the 2013 national championship.Pitino was inducted this yearinto the Naismith Hall of Fame. After laughing about the hang up for a bit, the hosts criticize the concept of Pitino's book, which was co-written with WDRB sports columnist Eric Crawford. (According to the publisher, Pitino "details his key to success, on the court and in life: to focus on making the most of each day, by creating a contract with yourself.") The hosts had nicer things to say about Duke Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski and Brad Stevens, the former Butler Bulldogs coach who now leads the Celtics.Update: Pitino responds.
