School Board Adjusts Calendar To Make Up Snow Days

The Jefferson County Board of Education has adjusted the current academic calendar to make up some instructional days lost to winter weather.Superintendent Sheldon Berman says the district has been quickly piling up snow days and there's still plenty of winter ahead. The board followed his recommendation to hold classes on February 14 and March 4, which were originally set aside for parent teacher conferences and an in-service day, respectively."We've had five (snow) days already and we're early on. I don't like to make a change like this when you have February 14 just three weeks away, but it's pretty critical that we make some accomodations so we don't go into the second week of June," he said. Berman says parents who have already made travel or other plans on those days can ask their principals to grant their children an excused absence.
