School Board To Discuss Superintendent Finalists Tuesday

The Jefferson County School board will meet Tuesday to discuss the two finalists for superintendent.  At that meeting they will set a timeline for making their final decision. The two finalists appeared at public forums this week to answer questions from citizens, but both events were met with meager turnouts.  A little over 150 people showed up for each event at Male High School on Monday and Wednesday. But turnout wasn’t the only thing that disappointed attendees. Some were under whelmed with responses from the candidates, saying they seemed evasive and general. Others thought the candidates didn’t seem to know much about the issues facing Jefferson County Schools.Dr. Christine Johns-Haines appeared on Monday, she is superintendent of Utica County Schools in Michigan.  The suburb of Detroit has had financial issues and Johns-Haines has a record of cutting costs.Dr. Donna Hargens served is Chief Academic Officer of Wake County Public Schools in North Carolina, a district of about 143,000.  She served as interim superintendent for the district last year, and says her experience with the 18th largest district in the nation has prepared her for Kentucky’s largest district.
