Second Round of Winter Weather Exits Louisville Area, NWS Says

Update 6:45 a.m. Monday: No Snow, Sleet in Monday ForecastOn Monday Morning, the National Weather Service forecasts cold (a high temperature of 34 degrees) but no precipitation through the day Monday. The weather service still forecasts a possibility of snow early Tuesday.Update: 7 p.m. Just Cold NowAt the moment, the National Weather Service says the Louisville area has a chance of drizzle Sunday night through Monday morning—it doesn't say freezing drizzle, though. There may be patchy fog to deal with through the early morning, too.But the high temperature Monday is expected to be 33 degrees, and that's as warm as it's expected to get in the Louisville area through Wednesday. There's also a chance of snow starting early Tuesday morning.Update 11:30 a.m.: Weather Winding Down?The National Weather Service forecasts that the Louisville area has a chance of sleet Sunday afternoon followed by a chance of rain between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. But "(p)recipitation is exiting the region," says the weather service'slatest update."Any further precipitation along and west of I-65 this afternoon will be extremely light."Here's a graphic from the weather service:

That's not a complete and total all clear for wintry weather. The weather service says the Louisville area has a chance of freezing rain Sunday night and freezing drizzle Monday morning.With Sunday morning's precipitation covering roads, state and Metro crews were out salting.Update 7:30 a.m. Sunday: The LatestThe National Weather Service forecasts snow, sleet and freezing rain Sunday morning for parts of the Louisville area. The precipitation is expected to transition to freezing rain and rain in the afternoon. It doesn't appear to be quite the mess that struck the region on Friday. At 7:30 a.m., the weather service forecast says "(l)ittle or no ice accumulation expected." In a report prepared earlier, the service said it expects less than an inch of snow and/or sleet accumulation in the Louisville area.Here are some timing estimates from the weather service's report:

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's district that cover's Louisville says: All eight counties in District 5 are reporting light to moderate snow. Pavement conditions range from wet pavement to partly covered. Road crews are salting their routes at this time. Louisville and much of Kentucky are under awinter weather advisory until 6 p.m. No advisory has been issued for Southern Indiana.Earlier: Weather-wise, Friday started out calm and devolved into a mess.Sunday may end up sort of the opposite. In the early morning Sunday, Louisville may get a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain, the National Weather Service said. The temperature will be well below freezing, meaning "roads will likely become slick immediately."From mid-morning into the afternoon, the snow will stop and the precipitation would be entirely in theform of freezing rain and sleet, the weather service said.The "worst conditions will be at onset, with improvement during the day," the weather service said.Practically all of Kentucky from4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday is under a winter weather advisory,but it does not expend north of the Ohio River in the Louisville area.Sunday's high temperature is forecast to be about 35 degrees. The warmest the weather service forecasts Louisville to be through Wednesday is 33 degrees. The warmest.Louisville has a "slight" chance of freezing before 7 a.m. Monday, the weather service said.
