Seven Candidates Seek Judge-Executive Position

by Stephanie CrosbySeven people are seeking the position of Jefferson County judge-executive in tomorrow’s primary elections. - but the position has held no power since 2003, when the city and county merged.Steve Haag is the minority caucus director of the Metro Council and helped draft the enabling legislation for merger. He says the state Constitution requires that every county have a judge-executive.“Because of that, when we were doing the merger enabling legislation, we were unable to remove that position from just Jefferson County without affecting the other 119 counties," says Haag.He says Lexington was in the same situation when it merged governments. The candidates for the position are Democrats Wesley Stover, Bryan Matthews, Paul Robertson and Curtis Morrison and Republicans Jack Early, Ray Pierce and Mark Abrams.
