By Brenna Angel, Kentucky Public RadioAn Indiana man has been handed the longest federal sentence ever imposed in the Eastern District of Kentucky for failing to register as a sex offender.Thirty-eight year old Michael Wayne Henderson will serve ten years in federal prison. U.S. Attorney spokesperson Kyle Edelen says Henderson was convicted in 2002 in Indiana of raping a family member.“As soon as he was paroled six years later in 2008, he met with this parole officer; the parole officer gave him the conditions that he was going to need to follow. He was very aware of where he needed to register, what he needed to do. He shortly thereafter fled, became a fugitive, so warrants were out, and a Kentucky State Police Trooper located him at a Frankfort homeless shelter,” he said.Edelen says the judge cited Henderson’s history of violence, a defiance of law, and sexual misconduct in imposing the maximum penalty allowed under federal law.
