Shepherdsville Council To Vote On Sunday Alcohol Sales

The Shepherdsville, Kentucky city council will hold a special meeting Monday evening to vote on a proposal to legalize Sunday alcohol sales. Two ordinances are before the council. One would allow beer, wine and liquor to be sold in restaurants on Sundays; the other would allow Sunday sales at the two local golf courses. The council could pass one or both measures.Councilwoman Faith Portman says she supports Sunday restaurant sales because it would attract more upscale eateries to the Bullitt County community.“I don’t think people go to nice, upscale restaurants and get drunk," says Portman. "You know, like they would at a bar.”Opponents say Sunday sales would only cause more alcohol-related problems, such as drunk driving.Portman says the six member council is currently split on the issue, so the mayor may have to cast the deciding vote.
