Six JCPS Schools On New Low-Achieving List

The Kentucky Department of Education has named six more Jefferson County schools among the 10 lowest achieving schools in Kentucky.Department spokesperson Lisa Gross says the schools will undergo state leadership assessments and be eligible for federal school improvement grants. Those are sort of like audits of the schools, atmosphere of its curriculum, its management, the day-to-day operations of those particular schools. Those leadership assessments really will set the course for the next steps for the schools. They do have some options; they will be required to put together improvement plans," she said The six Jefferson County schools on the list are Iroquois, Doss, Fairdale, Waggener, Southern and Seneca high schools. JCPS Superintendent Dr. Sheldon Berman says the list is based on recent reading and math test scores and does not reflect the schools' many other accomplishments.Six Jefferson County schools on an earlier low-achieving list are being restructured.
