Sleet, Freezing Rain Hits Louisville Friday Morning; Accidents Slow Morning Commute

Sleet was falling early Friday morning in the Louisville area in a system that could also bring snow and freezing rain into the early afternoon, the National Weather Service said.A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. It covers Jefferson County and Kentucky counties to the south and east, plus Floyd, Clark and other Indiana counties to the northeast.Update: Traffic was slowed on several interstate during the morning commute Friday as vehicles slid on slick roads. You can monitor traffic conditions at Trimarc.org.Louisville is expected to get "little to no" ice accumulation, with less than a half-inch of snow and sleet possible, the weather services said.Still, the precipitation may aggravate traveling because of the timing during the morning commute, the weather service said.The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet planned to have crews out beginning at 4 a.m. to salt and plow, the cabinet said.Louisville Metro Public Works had brined all 930 miles of its routes, says the city's snow removal Twitter account. (If you didn't know, yes, Louisville has one of those.)Jefferson County Public Schools were open and operating on a normal scheduled Friday.
