Split Verdict For Former Felner Associate

A one-time associate of former University of Louisville education dean Robert Felner has been found guilty of conspiracy to impede and impair the Internal Revenue Service.But a federal jury in Louisville Tuesday aquitted Thomas Schroeder of mail fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.Schroeder and Felner were accused of taking part in a scheme to bilk U of L, the University of Rhode Island and an Illinois addiction center out of some $2.3 million. Schroeder contended during his four-weektrial that he was duped by Felner.Felner pleaded guilty in the case earlier this year and is serving a 63 month sentence.Schroeder faces up to five year in prison when he's sentenced in December. His attorney tells the Courier-Journal he will likely appeal the verdict.
