Staff Reductions Possible At Louisville Assembly Plant

Staff reductions could be imminent for Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant.Union officials said Wednesday that the company wants to cut up to 380 of the plant's 1400 workers. A Ford spokesperson tells the Courier-Journal that the company is proposing a downward adjustment in production at the plant but no decisions have been made.Mayor's spokesperson Chris Poynter says any layoffs would negatively affect city revenues. But the company has assured the administration that jobs will remain in Louisville as the plant is restructured to produce a new vehicle."There are going to be natural fluctuations in the job levels at the plants until they completely get retooled and know what the new product is and move forward."The announcement of potential cuts comes a week after Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant, also in Louisville, started producing a new line of Ford Explorers and Lincoln Navigators.
