State Education Auditors Look at JCPS

Several Jefferson County Public Schools were visited this/last week by a team of auditors from the state Department of Education. Department spokesperson Lisa Gross says the audits were triggered automatically by poor performance in some schools."This is part of a larger process that Jefferson County and a couple of other school districts are involved in because they have some chronically under-performing schools," says Gross, "and under state law and state regulation there are some things that kick in when you have schools that have been underperforming for a number of years, and that is the case in Jefferson County."Western Middle and Valley High Schools in Louisville have failed to meet state testing performance goals for the last four years. Each of those schools has already been audited individually. The district-wide audit will end with a report and recommendations probably next month.
