State Officials Concerned With Pool Chemical Safety

State health officials say as summer heat picks up, so does the chance for injury from pool chemicals.Cabinet for Health and Family Services spokesperson Beth Fisher says sanitizing chemicals such as chlorine can cause serious injury if they're not used sparingly."Coughing, chest tightness, burning sensation in the nose, throat and eyes, watery eyes, blurred vision, it can cause nausea and vomiting," she says. "It can also cause burning pain, redness and blisters of the skin, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, and can create fluid in the lungs in two to four hours."Fisher says chemical misuse is more likely in private and backyard pools.  She adds that people should also take the proper sanitary precautions to lower their risk of illness when visiting any pools.
