Still Time for Green Tax Credits

There’s still time to reap the benefits of a new tax credit for improving the energy efficiency of your home. IRS spokesman Eric Ericson says that everything from new windows and doors, to efficient water heaters and air conditioners count –through the end of 2009 and a bit beyond.“Those improvements could be made any time in 2009, and then of course if anyone doesn’t get them made this year, that credit also extends into 2010 so if someone is thinking about it and they’re just not going to get it done before the end of the year, then they can do that in 2010 and benefit from it as well," says Ericson. The credit is 30 percent of the cost of an improvement, up to $1500 dollars.  The credits are an incentive to encourage homeowners to reduce energy usage.
