Analyzing Election ResultsAt last week’s Louisville Forum, a panel of political experts discussed this year’s presidential and senatorial elections. The panelists were writer and University of Louisville professor Ricky Jones, political writer Al Cross, Democratic political consultant Danny Briscoe, and Hunter Bates, former chief of staff to U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell.The group discussed Kentucky’s voting habits and why the state favored Republicans in an election where most states went for Democrats. Jones and Cross offered their insights into why Kentuckians voted the way they did.

Joycelyn EldersDr. Joycelyn Elders was a lightning rod for controversy during her brief fifteen months as the Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Elders worked for President Clinton in Arkansas and when the time came, she followed him to Washington. What followed for her was a volatile few months where she made statements (or at least they were attributed to her) about legalizing drugs and teaching masturbation in schools.Dr. Elders is long past her time in Washington, and not only does she have no regrets, but she thinks her messages are as relevant today as they were in 1993. Richard Paul EvansBack in the early 1990s, advertising executive Richard Paul Evans wrote a Christmas-themed story as a memento of affection for his daughters. That story, The Christmas Box, would eventually become a best-selling book and Evans would become a full-time author.Evans has just published his 12th novel, Grace, which also has a Christmas backdrop.Rick Howlett spoke with Evans about the book, his charitable work and his appearance Monday at the Louisville Free Public Library.
