Stumbo Outlines Schools-Gaming Linkage Plan

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighKentucky House Democrats continue to sweeten the pot in their ongoing effort to win enough votes for passage of video slots. A plan outlined by House Speaker Greg Stumbo would use more than 700-million dollars in bonds to repair or replace around160 aging school buildings across the state. Slots revenue would provide the 62-million dollar annual debt service on the bonds.“My personal belief is that we should at least have some sort of a broad spending plan, in the event that it passes," he says. "We have the authority and the responsibility to appropriate money and so I don’t see anything unusual about the General Assembly taking this step.”But Senate President David Williams says there won’t be any linkage between gambling money and school projects in any bill the Senate may consider. House budget committee action on the slots bills is still pending.
