Sub-Freezing Cold Snap Could be Longest in Nine Years

Louisville could be on its way to seeing its longest period of sub-freezing temperatures in at least nine years.Forecaster Nathan Foster with the National Weather Service in Louisville says the below-freezing temperatures started with the new year on January 1st.“We’re expecting really cold temperatures all the way through the weekend, probably highs not even getting above freezing," says Foster, "Maybe early next week we might start getting above freezing, but it’s going to be awhile yet.”There was a six-day sub-freezing cold snap in 2007, but a temperatures fell below freezing for ten consecutive days in late 2000, early 2001.Also in store for Louisville is a storm system on Thursday that Foster says will bring a still undetermined amount of accumulating snow. He says they’ll have a better idea of exactly how much snow as the storm approaches.
