Sudanese Man Reunited With His Family

With the help of a local synagogue, a Sudanese refugee has brought his wife and child to Louisville.At about 10:30 am Friday, Gabriel Akech Kwai's wife walked through the security gate at the airport. It was the first time she had seen her husband in about two years. It was also the first time Kwai had ever seen his young daughter.Kwai was displaced by the second Sudanese civil war. He moved to Louisville in 2001, but his wife remained in Sudan. About a year ago, the Congregation Adath Jeshurun began raising money to help Kwai bring his family to the United States. Kwai says the process of bringing two people from Sudan to Louisville was expensive and fraught with bureaucratic challenges."[In] the last seven weeks I have already spent 700 U.S. dollars and that is going from this office to that office to the next office," he says. "I faced a lot of challenges and I am grateful that it has all come together right now."Kwai says there are many other so-called "Lost Boys of Sudan" whose wives and children are still in their home country.
