Sunday Library Patrons Urged To Visit U of L Facility

With all of Louisville's public libraries now closed on Sunday because of budget cuts, University of Louisville officials are reminding citizens that they still have access to the school's library facilities.

U of L Libraries Dean Hannelore Rader says the Ekstrom Library on the Belknap campus is always open to the general public, with Sunday hours from noon until midnight.

She says visitors who want to check out a book or use similar services should bring along a photo I-D.

"If they actually want to have a special borrowers card, they need a driver's license or something to show that they are 18 years old and a resident of Kentucky," Rader said.

Mayor Jerry Abramson ordered last month that the seven Louisville library branches with Sunday hours shut down on that day to help close a $20 million budget shortfall.
