Oct 6 State of Affairs Advances in Breast Cancer Treatment A small balloon catheter is used to insert a radioactive device into the tumor of a woman with breast cancer. Doctors use the device to deliver radiation therapy directly to her tumor tissue, saving her skin from radiation burns and shortening her treatment from 6 weeks to just 5 days. This kind of advanced treatment, known as brachytherapy or partial breast irradiation, is happening already, right here in town at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.
