Louisville Metro Council President David Tandy has created an ad hoc committee to broker a compromise over two pieces of ethics reform legislation.One ordinance is sponsored by Republican Ken Fleming, who says he wants to increase transparency in Metro Government. Meanwhile, Democrat Marianne Butler is proposing an update to the current Metro ethics code to address how employees can use technology such as e-mail as well as how complaints are handled.The new committee will be made up of five Democrats and five Republicans, with Tandy as a nonvoting chair. The group will try to merge the ordinances into one that can be passed by the full council. Tandy says he's hopeful there will be an agreement, but consensus isn't necessary."An ordinance can come out of our committee whether it gets a favorable vote or an unfavorable vote out of committee," he says. "So regardless, it's going to come out and come to the full council for a final vote."Democrats outnumber Republicans on the council 16 to 10.
