TARC Cuts Take Effect

by Stephanie CrosbyThe latest round of TARC route and service cuts take place today.Four routes serving Indian Trail, Bashford Manor, River Road and Hurstbourne Parkway are eliminated and service reductions are now in place on twenty other routes.TARC Director Barry Barker says they saved some express routes in favor of a one-dollar fare increase, but that increase won’t go into effect until July first.“It simply gives us a little more time to adjust our fare collection system," says Barker. "And, frankly, we need that funding in our new budget year, so we thought we’d give folks a couple of weeks of grace.”Barker says the cuts and fare increases are needed to make up a projected $5.5-million dollar budget shortfall.
