TARC Gets New Vehicles

The Transit Authority of River City, better known as TARC, has some new vehicles to transport disabled passengers.

TARC recently used federal funds to purchase eleven vans that have ramps for wheelchairs and other amenities for disabled riders. TARC Executive Director Barry Barker says the vans are designed more for disabled but ambulatory passengers such as those who are blind or have difficulty walking.

The vehicles are made by Chevrolet, which Barker says is one of the few automakers that can meet the required specifications for the vans.

“I would hope that what happens is that more and more manufacturers provide these sorts of vehicles," says Barker.

The vans will be part of the TARC 3 routes which serve disabled passengers who live near regular bus routes.
