TARC Holds Public Forums On Potential Changes

The Transit Authority of River City, better known as TARC, is holding public forums this month to get feedback on a proposed fare increase and service cuts prompted by higher fuel prices.TARC plans to raising bus fares by as much as a quarter starting July first. Depending on how much fares increase, some routes will be altered, with buses running less frequently. The agency says one route will definitely be cut entirely - the so-called night owl service for late night workers. At a public forum in West Louisville Thursday, Lonetta Taylor said she’s particularly worried about that change.“I’m concerned about my husband having to take his bicycle miles to work because they’re cutting the night owl out," she said.TARC Executive Director Barry Barker says most of the complaints so far have been about service cuts, and not the fare increase.
