The Transit Authority of River City will soon offer commuters a new travel option between downtown Louisville and Southern Indiana.

Beginning Jan. 27, two new TARC commuter coaches will make four daily round trips across the Ohio River via I-65.

Designed to be mobile work spaces, the coaches are equipped with electrical outlets, free wi-fi and overhead storage. Passengers will pay an express fare of $2.75.

TARC Executive Director Barry Barker wants the coaches to be exempt from tolling for the Ohio River Bridges Project.

“Our operating dollars are tight enough without having to pay one portion of the transportation system from another portion of the transportation system,” Barker says. “We are all in the same business, and that’s moving people.”

Officials have not yet decided whether the buses will be subject to tolling on the new bridge system.
