TARC to Provide St. James Patrons With Shuttle Service

The Transit Authority of River City is again offering public transportation for patrons of the St. James Court Art Show.For the past several years, buses have run residents from downtown to the Old Louisville neighborhood, which hosts the annual art show. The juried fine arts and crafts show has been going on since 1957, gathering over 200,000 visitors each year.TARC spokesman Jon Reither says the festival is a beloved city institution and the busing service is glad to provide visitors with an alternative mode of transportation."It’s really good if you’re going to use this service for more than one person. If you want to take your family down there after church it’s perfect for that sort of thing," he says.The bus service will leave the parking lot at the Brown Hotel garage on Third and Broadway every 15 minutes beginning September 30 at 9:30 a.m. It will run every 10 minutes on the weekend.The buses will deliver passengers to Second and Hill Streets, where patrons can make a short walk to the art show. The cost is $6 per carload, which covers parking and the bus service."We do try and provide service like this to most major events. We try to do some rerouting on some U of L home football games, we’ve been working to do some events at the Yum Center, and I think as long as people respond and use this service to go to these big events we’ll continue and try to do them,” says Reiter.Art show patrons can also ride the fare-free trolleys downtown, which will connect them to other venues such as the First Friday Trolley Hop on Main and Market Streets and Fourth Street Live.
