Taser Lawsuit Settled

By Rick HowlettLouisville Metro Government has paid $150,000 to settle a suit that claimed police used excessive force when they Tasered a man during a struggle in 2007.The money was paid to the estate of 52 year old Larry Noles, who died after the incident. The coroner ruled his death was not caused by the Taser shock.A lawyer for Noles' estate tells the Courier-Journal the settlement will be divided between Noles' two sons.Police Chief Robert White ruled after an internal investigation that the officers followed proper procedures during the incident. Noles was taken into custody after officers found him naked at Seventh Street and Algonquin Parkway.The suit claimed Noles posed no threat.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
