Louisville's Dare To Care organization and Interfaith Paths to Peace are sponsoring a Thanksgiving Eve gathering to recall an event that led to the creation of a local movement to battle hunger.It was on Thanksgiving Eve of 1969 that nine year old Bobby Ellis died of malnutrition at his home at what is now Hodge and Eddy Streets in west Louisville.Dare To Care's Stan Siegwald says it spurred numerous faith and other groups to take action."We responded with vigor and with a passion that such a tragedy would never recur. There was a huge interfaith anti-hunger movement that began. It resulted in the founding of Dare To Care Food Bank," he said. The 41st anniversary of Bobby Ellis's death will be marked with a candlelight walk from the Kentucky Center for African-American Heritage to the block where he died. It begins at 7:00pm Wednesday.
