According to the official federal website, "The Electoral College was established by the founding fathers as a compromise between election of the president by Congress and election by popular vote." But what exactly does this "compromise" do when it comes to electing a president? And if the founding fathers thought it was a necessity, why are some people opposed to the use of electors today?
