The Kentucky State Fair begins later this week in Louisville.

Officials say despite higher gas prices, they’re expecting attendance to top 600,000 during the fair’s ten-day run.

Attendance was about 585,000 last year. Spokesperson Vicki Glass says a lot of people were kept away by unusually hot weather in 2007.

Glass says the expo center gates open Thursday morning.

“The fair is eight dollars for adults, and four dollars for children and senior citizens,” Glass said.

The admission price does not include fairgrounds parking, which is six dollars. Glass says information about admission discount opprtunities is available at the fair’s website.
