Thunder Countdown to Come From Space

Two NASA astronauts will deliver the countdown to this year’s Thunder Over Louisville fireworks show….from space. Commander Peggy Whitson and Astronaut Garret Reisman are aboard the International Space Station – where they’ll transmit the countdown live. Thunder Producer Wayne Hettinger says the signal will travel via microwaves and radio waves."It’s pretty standard stuff. I mean, they’re getting communications constantly, so communications between Thunder Over Louisville, is filtered back through Houston, and Houston to the Space Station," said Hettinger.Another space station veteran – Astronaut Dan Tani – will join Thunder crew members at their Command Center at the Galt House. Thunder Over Louisville takes place Saturday along the Ohio River.
