Tim Faulkner Gallery Will Host Inaugural Kentuckiana Poetry Festival

The inaugural Kentuckiana Poetry Festival takes place Thursday night at the Tim Faulkner Gallery in Portland. The event assembles 10 poets from around the region to read their work.

I spoke with the organizer of the event, Indiana University Southeast’s Selena McCracken, about the festival and some of the poets.

Listen to the interview in the audio player above.

On the public reaction to the festival:

"Just a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. And it's really, for me, it's really a realization of my entire goal from the beginning, which is to celebrate our robust community of literary artists in this region."

On what drew her to poetry:

"Going back to when I started cultivating poetry in my life would be high school. I had an English teacher named Mr. Yonker and he had a poetry week lesson, and that's when I started to be engaged in school overall."

The Kentuckiana Poetry Festival is Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Tim Faulkner Gallery. For more information, click here
