Toyota of Kentucky Gives Over $100,000 to Louisville Non-Profits

by Stephanie CrosbyToyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky handed out more than $100,000 in grants this morning to six non-profits in Louisville.Among the recipients is a group called Project One, which works to find jobs for young people ages 13-to-24. President and CEO Charles King says the closure of Kentucky Kingdom this year left them with a lot of young people looking for work.“We’re seeing a dramatic increase in our numbers," says King. "Nearly 3,000 young people have applied for 700 jobs with Project One.”Toyota donated $20,000 dollars to the program. King says the money will be used for stipends for 13-to-15-year-old workers in day cares and nursing homes. He says with the grant, they’ll be able to fund up to 70 jobs for six-to-eight weeks.Other grant recipients are the Americana Community Center, Governor’s School for the Arts, Metro Parks Foundation, the Urban League and the Louisville Zoo.
