The Louisville Metro Sewer District held a 50th birthday party for Kentucky’s largest waste water treatment facility Friday. The event also commemorated a citation free year.In 2007 the Morris Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant was completely in compliance with government regulations. The last time Morris Forman avoided citations for an entire year was 1988.The facility has had trouble in past. MSD Executive Director Bud Schardein says that in the early 2000s, Morris Forman frequently went over budget and was a candidate for privatization.“We went through a painful rightsizing," he says. "There were people who left through retirement, but we got it right. Now we have a staff that meets it budget, its operating budget, its capital budget and we’re not primed for any privatization.”Schardein says many employees were replaced by automation in 2003 and 2004.
