Two Men Trapped at Ohio County Surface Mine

Two men are trapped in their vehicle on an Ohio County surface coal mine site. The accident happened early this morning when a mine highwall caved in, burying the one-ton flatbed truck in rubble and trapping the men inside.Ohio County Sheriff David Thompson is leading the rescue operation from the scene.“Basically we’re having to unload some of this rock, get some of this rock off them so we can tunnel our way in there to pull this truck and these folks out safely.”The names and conditions of the men are unknown. They are not miners, but rather part of a blasting crew. The accident was at the Equality surface mine near Centertown, which is owned by Madisonville-based Armstrong Coal. With additional reporting by WKYU's Joe Corcoran.
