U of L Announces Energy Savings Plan

The University of Louisville is launching an initiative aimed at making the school more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

U of L officials says the school will authorize a contract with Siemens Building Technologies to trim energy use through equipment upgrades across its Belknap and Health Sciences campuses.

Siemens has begun an energy audit of 84 university buildings.Company official Michael Azzara predicts the improvements will save U of L nearly $4 million in annual energy costs."There will be a financing mechanism in place that will pay for the cost of the improvements.   The university will retire the cost of the financing, the debt service over a period of time through the savings that we guarantee," he said.Azzara says the improvements will include modern systems controlling the use of electricity, water and other resources.U of L also announced that a university sustainability council will be formed to take on school-related environmental issues.
