U of L Approves 9% Tuition Increase

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees has approved a 9% tuition increase. All but one board member voted in favor of the hike, which was proposed in light of state higher education funding cuts. The sole dissenter was student government president Brian Hoffman,  who urged trustees to adopt a long-term plan for smaller, gradual tuition increases.“We’ve had a long tradition of near double-digit increases and I think it’s important that the university makes some effort to have a serious, long-term tuition plan. Stop doing this year to year and make it clear what they intend to charge their students over the next five or six years," said Hoffman. The board also passed a resolution asking the General Assembly to find alternatives to further education budget cuts. The tuition increase must now be approved by the Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary education. That vote will come Friday.
