U of L Assistant To Be Questioned In NCAA Probe Of Miami

The University of Louisville says it is cooperating with an NCAA request to speak with assistant football coach Clint Hurtt about alleged recruiting violations during his time at the University of Miami. Hurtt (pictured) is named in a Yahoo Sports investigative report this week on former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, who has admitted providing cash, meals, prostitutes and the use of his yacht to recruits. Hurtt was an assistant at Miami for two years before coming to Louisville in 2010. He’s now the Cards’ associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Shapiro says Hurtt was involved in some of the illegal practices in Miami, including bringing recruits to Shapiro’s home, allowing Shapiro to pay for restaurant meals for recruits and accepting a loan from the booster. Shapiro is serving a 20 year federal prison term for taking part in a Ponzi scheme. Hurtt has not commented publicly on the allegations. U of L Athletic Dirctor Tom Jurich said the school would not comment beyond a statement acknowledging the NCAA request to speak to Hurtt, who’s not accused of wrongdoing in Louisville. U of L Coach Charlie Strong told the Courier-Journal that any decisions regarding Hurtt’s status here would be made by Jurich. Hurtt is widely considered one of the country’s top college football recruiters. The Courier-Journal says U of L has signed 11 players from the city of Miami during Hurtt’s time in Louisville.
