U of L Celebrates Fulbright Winners

By Rick HowlettThe University of Louisville is celebrating its new status as one of the top schools in the country for producing Fulbright Scholars. The Fulbright program, funded by the U.S. State Department, sends students abroad to study, conduct research or teach for one year.U of L president James Ramsey says it's a highly competitive program."Each of the last three years we thought we were doing pretty well with seven Fulbrights per year, and we were leading the state and we thought that was some sort of a record, but this is incredible. Twelve students this year, seven students still waiting to hear on their applications, so the number may be even more," he said.Officials say in 2009,  MIT had 13 Fulbright Scholars, Cornell had 12 and Duke University produced 11.   Northwestern led the country with 32.
