The College of Education at the University of Louisville is preparing a new training program in response to an internal audit. The audit was conducted in the wake of former Education Dean Robert Felner's alleged mishandling of funds. The investigation looked at the policies and practices of the education department and found they were adequate when compared with those at other universities. Director of Audit Services Dave Barker says the problems at U of L involved adherence to those policies."We need some additional training," he says. "We also need to enhance some controls from the perspective that the university has good policy and procedure, but in some cases we're not always following those policies and procedures, there."The college will introduce a new training program to make sure policies are being followed. Barker says a start date for the program hasn't been set.
