U Of L Damaged, Belknap Closed Wednesday

The University of Louisville's Belknap Campus remained closed Tuesday afternoon and will be closed Wednesday because of flooding. At least nine buildings were flooded on the Belknap campus."It has been reported that several feet of flooding water is in our business school and several feet of water in our Houchens Building," says University President James Ramsey. "Other buildings we just don't know about yet. We looked at our chemistry building earlier and water was cascading down the stairways like a waterfall."Ramsey says workers will get them back in shape as soon as possible."We'll open on time for the fall semester if we don't have any more of these events. We have an incredible group of people at the University of Louisville. Our physical plant has bounced back from the wind storm, the ice storm and we'll come back. We'll bounce back and put things back together."Some campus buildings were evacuated Tuesday due to flooding. No injuries were reported. There are currently 26 hundred undergraduates and 58 graduate students enrolled in summer classes. The School of Public Health and Information Sciences on the Health Sciences Campus will also be closed, but that campus will be open.
