University of Louisville Hospital is again offering drive-through flu seasonal flu shots this year. They'll be available Tuesday and again Thursday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Here's more information from U of L HospitalStay away from the flu this year by getting your seasonal flu shot at University Hospital’s Drive-Thru Flu Shot on October 13 or 15 from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Held at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium (2800 South Floyd Street), University Hospital is in its fourteenth year of providing drive-thru flu shots to the community. The fee is $25, and registration can be handled online at www.uoflhealthcare.org.The flu has taken on a whole new meaning this year with the spread of H1N1 (Swine Flu). While the Drive-Thru Flu Shot will NOT offer H1N1 vaccinations, receiving the seasonal flu vaccine should always be a priority during the flu season. During a typical flu season, 200,000 people are hospitalized with complications from flu, and nearly 36,000 die.“The good news about the flu is that is very preventable,” said Linda Goss, Director of Infection Control at University Hospital. “If you get your shot and take other precautions like washing your hands, you will most likely avoid contracting it.”In general, anyone who wants to reduce his or her chances of getting the flu can get vaccinated. However, certain people should be sure to get vaccinated each year, including all children six months to five years of age; people 50 years and older; health care, nursing home and daycare workers and teachers.While everyone who is eligible to get a flu vaccine is encouraged to get one, at University Hospital's Drive-Thru Flu Shot program, the vaccine will NOT be given to those who:are under 18 years of age;are allergic to eggs or egg products;have a fever greater than 100.5° F on the day of vaccination;have a severe reaction to thimerosal or formaldehyde; or have ever been paralyzed with Guillain Barre Syndrome.
