U Of L Receives Grant Despite Felner Investigation

The National Science Foundation has awarded a $3.1 million grant to the University of Louisville’s College of Education, even though the college’s former dean is currently under investigation for his handling of previous grant funds. Results from the investigation into former Education Dean Robert Felner are expected later this year. In the meantime, the college was able to secure millions to develop a program to assess teachers and students in geometry classes. The school has been reviewing its oversight policies in the wake of the probe.Interim Education Dean Blake Haselton says the investigation hasn’t hurt the school’s reputation when it comes to securing new grants.“I don’t think they’re related," he says. "I think that what it demonstrates is that the federal and state officials have a high degree of confidence in the College of Education and Human Development.”The University is currently undergoing an audit of previous grant spending.
